Thanks Charles. A fantastic representation of criticisms I have and many others have of this land use plan. I'm a faculty member, alum of UBC and now a resident and I certainly believe that extracting value over representing values is what has happened here. Thank you for your vote against this plan. I feel represented as a faculty member and thank you for your service on our behalf.

Another good perspective. I think this is just the tip of the iceberg really. What does the University of British Columbia really mean? To me it should absolutely mean that it represents the people who live in BC in their interests to develop and distribute knowledge. Something people will have their own individual opinions on as something valuable, in a non-financial sense. Where's the consultation for people outside the campus community? Perhaps they're to be represented by the provincial government ;) I'm afraid too few have an opinion on what UBC should mean, and that among those holding decision making power, something along the lines of 'an academic client bureaucracy of the state' might be a popular take, if only implicitly so. I think a tripartite symbiosis of sorts between academia, the state, and private capital is a fairly valid description of 'our' society's structure. Anyway, thanks for representing the values of regular people. Thanks very much.
